STATE SECRETARY AND DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER GRIGORY KARASIN’S ANSWER TO A MEDIA QUESTION
Question :
A statement has been made by Tbilisi the other day that Russia may withdraw its recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the future. Can you comment on it ?
Grigory Karasin :
Indeed, such speculations are not uncommon. It is difficult to see where they come from. This may be a clumsy attempt to encourage mistrust towards Russia among our neighbours.
The Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of South Ossetia are independent sovereign states with which the Russian Federation enjoys neighbourly, friendly and allied relations. This is our firm and unshakeable position. We would like everyone to remember this once and for all.
